MOVIES UPDATE JULY
Hello guys, I apologize for not bringing you movie recommendations and review for the past few days now. I've been under the weather and just got back on my feet. I've also got a list of movies I've watch of recent which I will be giving you guys a breakdown on each in this article. Without further ado let's get into it.
First on my list is Sound of Metal. If you’ve ever been curious about what disability feels like. Well, you should check out this movie. The plot follows Ruben, a rock band drummer who is losing his hearing; he eventually does. Sound of Metal takes the audience on an immersive and relatable journey of denial, acceptance, and resolve. One of the things I like about Sound of Metal is how the director drowns out all the sound in some scene when Ruben is on screen. It makes the audience feel what it feels like to be deaf. When it comes to disability, there are those that are birthed that way and there are those who lose one of two senses while growing up or due to an accident. The reality of losing one of your five senses as an adult is what we get to experience in this movie.
Sign language is also used to communicate in a lot of scenes, and it makes the audience get into a curious mood. For a person like myself who doesn’t know how to communicate in sign language. I really wanted to know what is being said in some of these scenes but it’s a creative choice the director took by now translating onscreen. This further put the audience in another curious mood by putting us in a space that we know but usually ignore its reality.
Riz Ahmed delivers an outstanding performance with the Character of Ruben in this movie. His performance being raw and you can feel the emotional behind his character. Clocking in at one hour fifty-eight minutes long. It’s a slow-paced movie that you can watch if you need a break from action packed movies. Highly recommended if you’re also into pure drama movies.
Next on my list is the Fear Street Trilogy: Fear Street Part One:1994, Fear Street Part Two: 1978 and Fear Street Part Three: 1666. The Fear Street trilogy is a horror slasher movie based on books of the same name, Fear Street by author R.L. Stine. The premise of this trilogy revolves around two towns, Shadyside and Sunnyvale. Shadyside is known for their constant violent incidents that usual ends in scores of Shadyside residents being killed after one of them goes on a murdering spree with no reasonable explanation as to why. This phenomenon is rooted in the town’s folklore known as the Sarah Fier’s curse. The part one serves as an introduction of things to comes and, it does well to introduce us to our protagonist. As with any slasher horror expect a lot of character deaths in this trilogy. The part two gives further insight into the mystery of the two towns and one of Shadyside’s killers. The third part serves as an origin story and a concluding part to the trilogy and it’s a well thought out third act the story.
Like I’ve always said about this type of movies adapted from an original source material. The true fans of the source materials will be the better judge of knowing if the movie adaptation does their beloved title justice. The Fear Street Trilogy takes inspiration from different slasher classics like the part one being heavily inspired by Scream and the part two also takes inspiration from Friday the Thirteenth. By the way my personal favorite in the trilogy is the part two. If you’re looking for to satisfy your thirst for horror movies as there are not so many out there these days and you don’t want watch something from previous years, Fear Street Trilogy is definitely your go-to movie.
Moving on, Forever Purge. I never knew another Purge entry was coming out this year and going into this movie I had no idea what to expect but with the title I could have taken a hint. Forever Purge’s plot follows two Mexican immigrants, Juan and Adela living in Texas. The Husband, Juan works as a cowboy on a ranch owned by wealthy Americans, the Tucker family. The morning of the annual purge puts both families in a situation where they have to set aside their differences and survive their new societal reality together. Forever Purge answers the question of what if one day is not enough for some people to purge? It’s a question longtime fans would have considered at a certain point when thinking about the concept of the purge movies and that’s what the director and writer of this movie had done; a brilliant perspective from them. Apparently, this movie is supposed to be the last entry in the franchise. You can really tell with the ending this movie was given. Overall, this movie is another purge movie to me, not my personal favorite but it checks out all the checklist purge movies usually have.
Next is No Sudden Move. In 1954, Curt Goynes, Ronald Russo and Charley, are hired to steal some documents. Their supposed easy heist gig with big pay soon goes terribly wrong and it’s up to our protagonist to find out who set them up. No Sudden Move’s plot takes the audience on a merry go round of multiple double crosses. At a point in this movie, I was thinking why are we not having a touch of comedy in this movie with so many people trying to double cross one another at the same time? No Sudden Move is a crime drama that capture the 50s vibes well and I had a fun time watching it’s cat and mouse tale is has to tell.
Finally, you can check out all these movies if you haven't seen them yet. There is going to be a follow up post to this article with two mofe movies to cover. Kindly stay tuned and look out for the second article.
