TILL DEATH
Till Death’s plot introduces us to a woman called Emma(Megan Fox) in a strained marriage with Mark, her husband. After a night out dinner on their 10th anniversary. Mark decides to take her to a secluded lake house for a romantic surprise. What is supposed to be an end to a romantic getaway quickly becomes a nightmare the following morning when Emma wakes up to find herself handcuffed to her husband, who is about to commit suicide.
Till Death is not a big budget movie and it’s a survival/thriller type of movie. What this type of movies does is play their cards around creating a scenario around a protagonist. By scenario I mean creating an instance of a dire situation where nobody is coming to the protagonist’s aid while he/she in imminent danger that will lead to their demise. It will be up to the protagonist to dig their way out of the situation. Till Death is not the first movie to experiment with this type of style and it won’t be the last. A reminiscence of this style is Alone from last year. A movie I thoroughly enjoyed its suspense. The plot is usually simple and the cast is usually very small. If done right, the experience is usually immersive as the audience is pulled into the situation the protagonist find themselves. An instance of this immersion in Till Death is when Emma considers the option of using their vehicle to escape, and she discovers it has been sabotaged. She uses a swear word that I unconsciously said as well when it was revealed the method through which the car got sabotaged. It's one of those moments you'll know you're totally hooked to the movie.
Till Death is one hour and twenty minutes long. It starts out slow with the its introductory sequence where we’re introduced to our protagonist and the situation surrounding what is going to happen next. Twenty minutes into its run-time, things start to get grim and interesting. Although at some point, it felt daunting to watch the protagonist exhaustively drag a dead body through the house while she’s trying to find a means of escaping or at least cut herself free. These feeling confirms how you can be easily pulled into the situation Emma finds herself and at every point where her hope for survival is shattered, you also feel it as an audience. Till Death is also clever with the way it introduces its tension.
At a certain point in the movie, when Emma discovers that she is not only stuck to a dead body but Mark has also made extra plans to ensure her demise. The movie’s atmosphere change from a survival scenario to a twisted game of cat and mouse; the tension also increases.
If you’re into these types of movies that is about survival or home invasion. I think you will find Till Death interesting. To give a verdict on this movie, I’ll say it’s an enjoyable watch. Since its run-time is very short, you can spare some of your time to give it a go, if you’re looking for a movie that is not time consuming to watch this week.
