LOKI
Yet again we have another Marvel tv series on our hands that is linked to the concluded Avenger's story, Loki. Yeah, that's the name and you've guessed it already it's about Loki, Thor's brother and the god of mischief. As usual we will be needing our MCU's knowledge. The last time we saw Loki on screen was in Avengers: Endgame, when the avengers went back in time but before that, remember he was killed by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War? Keep that in mind. We saw him die but, one would wonder if he really died. I mean it's Loki but considering who Thanos is, our doubt might still be kind of wrong. This series in not based on that part of the timeline where Loki dies in Avengers: Infinity War but it takes us back to 2012, the first Avengers movie where he was apprehended and a commotion occurs due to the Avengers going back in time in Avengers: Endgame. Loki then uses that commotion to disappear with the tesseract; you'll remember the scene when you see it. Not to make everything sound so convoluted you are going to need your knowledge of MCU movies to know how all these premise come together through past events because some references are also made to Thor movies.
Now back to an escaped Loki. He finds himself in another timeline where he is apprehended by the Time Variance Authority(TVA) a bureaucratic organization that exists outside of time and space and monitors the timeline. The TVA was created by supreme beings in charge of keeping timeline intact and in check. Anyone breaking the flow of their path will be arrested, technically, and removed from where they find themselves to correct the mistake in the timeline. I said arrested because, they also make people stand trial in their court.
After 40 minutes of runtime of the first episode, Loki is given a choice: face being erased from existence due to being a "time variant", or help fix the timeline and stop a greater threat that the TVA and timeline is currently facing, end of episode one. That's basically the summary of episode one.
Now to my impression about this series. Personally, I'm really looking forward to how this series will unfold. There is so much layers to the character of Loki, and we are already seeing it in episode one. Getting his show also places us in the perfect situation to experience the different layers to the character of Loki. I don't know about you, but I'm looking forward to what the god of mischief have in stock for us through the season.
We're yet to figure out how many episodes this series is going to have since we have to wait every week for each episode to release. We can take a hint from the recent marvel tv series release like WandaVision and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. Going by those two and the usual trend, it won't be more than eight to ten episodes. While we're unsure if we will be seeing familiar faces from the MCU in this show, we just have to wait to find out. It will be nice to see a cool reveal or cameo. Tom Hiddleston as Loki is already carrying this show on it own; great actor by the way. A cameo by any marvel character will just be the icing on the cake for this show. Owen Wilson also plays Agent Mobius, Loki's handler at the TVA. It has been like forever since we last saw a movie he stars in. I'm sure both lead actors will gives the audience a fun time in this show.
In the department of cinematography, this series looks gorgeous, the effects doesn't look cheap. It is a consistent thing that marvel tv series show has constantly maintained of late and we don't expect the standard to drop.
Although the show is just starting, the finale is one I'm so looking forward to because Loki's fate will have to be decided by then. I hope we're not let down, but my bet is on Loki not dying. I'll be revisiting this show by the end of the season so be on a look out for that article.
