MONSTER HUNTER
If you're going to watch this movie, I will advise you to throw all forms of logic and realism outside the window. It's an adventure fantasy adaptation of a video game. There is always a huge expectation that falls on movies that are based on Video game titles so, did this movie scratch that itch? I can't say because I'm not familiar with the 'Monster Hunter' video games. Only a true fan can tell, especially when there are fan services moment included in the movie that could be recognized by them.
The CGI in this movie is decent, it's a fantasy movie so lots of CGI is involved and the effects are pretty. 'Monster Hunter' has simple plot; a squad of soldiers are teleported into another world where they encounter huge monsters, and our main protagonist spends the rest of the movie trying to get back to her world. No complex twist going on just a straight-forward action adventure movie. Just prepared to be entertained with exaggerated action sequences.
Milla Jovovich is not an actress that is new to acting this kind of movie, she acted the role of Alice through the Resident Evil series(another movie adapted from video games) and her performance feels natural together with Tony Jaa(the dude from Ong-Bak). The duo will keep you entertained with their interactions in this movie. One interesting approach this movie has is how language barrier comes into play in its world development. When people get teleported into another world in movies, everyone they encounter are automatically speaking English but that is not the case in this movie. In fact at a point, the dialogue was scanty because both protagonists on screen spoke different languages so there was improvisation in communication which was very interesting to watch.
For those not familiar with the video game like myself, some of the things happening will be vague but regardless I was entertained.
If you are looking for something to watch this week, I will recommend this one.
