COME TRUE

'Come True' is a sci-fi horror that explores an interesting concept but never really did anything jaw dropping with it. 'Come True' follow the story of Sarah Dunn, a strange teenager that has trouble sleeping takes part in a sleep study which turns life upside down more than it already is.
'Come True' explores the concept of dream. This alone is one of the things that makes this movie unique. Not a lot of movies has explored the concept as this movie does. If you've ever wondered what it will be like if there was a machine that can view your dream in real time and record it. Well, that's the premise of this movie. Sounds cool right? If you've ever experienced or wondered what sleep paralysis feels like you will be seeing a side of it in this movie too.
There are barely jumpscares in this movie, and I can only recall one. For the most part 'Come True' relies on the surreal dream sequences for its horror and creepy atmosphere. It also relies on tense and intimidating soundtrack. A lot of emphasis was placed on the score of this movie; you can tell throughout the movie.
The atmosphere of 'Come True' is dark and cold. It's very obvious from its color grading and for the fact that the timeline shown mostly takes place during the morning and night; you can barely tell when it's afternoon in this movie.
The runtime of 'Come True' is about 1 hour 30 minutes long. I can boldly tell you that it is extremely slow paced. The cast list is small, so it's easy to keep track of them.
Now, one of the issues I have with this movie is that it never took a big risk. I was expecting that they will do more with the dream sequences but the whole thing got boring after the sleep paralysis sequence. I was really expecting more after the sleep paralysis sequence but nothing that interesting happened afterwards.
Being a slow paced movie, you'll think they will invest more time in character building but that was not the case here. We are aware Sarah has a mother and things are not really good between them(she's a runaway.)They could have shown us more about that relationship and to even mention her friend that we saw at the beginning of the movie. I just wish they did more with character development. Not to sound cold-hearted but I barely feel any connection to the character of Sarah throughout this movie. It would have made more sense if there were more things at a stake while she was going through the crisis but it just felt hollowed out. A better character building would have filled this space.
'Come True' is a movie that leaves you with an eerie feeling that is easily forgettable. Although it's a budget movie, it's got good production and premise, I learnt a few things about the concept of dream along the way but overall, it just doesn't leave a huge impression by the time the credits rolled.
