THE WALKING DEAD SEASON 10 (MY THOUGHTS)
Ten years running, ten seasons long and still ongoing. For people that started this show when its first episode aired on FOX in 2010, it's been a long ride. 'The Walking Dead' has come a long way. We have witnessed its ups and downs in storytelling and production. The show has also lost some of its fans along the way. Over the years we've seen some of our favourite characters on the chopping block with heartbreaking character deaths and moments. Villains have come and ago. After nine seasons it doesn't look like this show is ending soon. For those who feel the same way about it runtime well there is a good news. According to the showrunners, season eleven will be the final one; relieved to hear that.
Season ten is going to be 22 episodes long. So far, I've seen up to 17 episodes which conclude the story arc for the antagonists from season nine, the Whisperers. With five episodes left in this season, our survivors are introduced to a new antagonist group, the Reapers and some mysterious new group in flashy soldier suit that we're yet to determine if they're going to be on the good side or the bad.
As usual, there are character deaths in this season. Characters are taken away, new ones are introduced with new communities or villain. It's a constant staple of the show.
Reflecting from season one to this current season. We only have Daryl and Carol left from the original survivor group. Rick Grimes fate is still unknown, but we get a glimpse on his presence in this season.
One thing that has kept me around for this season is Negan! Negan plays an important role in this season. Who would have thought that such a dislikeable villain will still have a hold in the plot. Negan is a character that carries a charismatic presence whenever he is in a scene. You have to love him or hate him. For season ten, he gradually transitions from a full-blown villain to a form of anti-hero. You might be puzzled why this character is still around.
For me, one of the best decisions the showrunner has made is keeping Negan around. Jeffrey Dean Morgan is just a fantastic actor for the role and he is entertaining to watch as Negan whenever he is on screen.
'The Walking Dead' has been a show that has always questioned the place of morals in its post-apocalyptic world and season ten is not spared from this theme. Our survivors are still thrown into constant struggle with the dead and other survivor groups and occasionally they're strike with the thought of the possibility of them being an antagonist in another people's survivor story.
Some may opine that the show has gone stale, been through a rinse and repeat story formula over the seasons. These facts are totally true, but we can't deny the fact that we've been entertained for over ten years now. With the story come to an end in the next season, I think it's worth it to stick around for the finale especially for those who started when the show premiered.
