SUPERMAN AND LOIS
Growing up, the superman show that was everywhere was 'Smallville'. I have to admit I'm guilty of not finishing up the show. One of the memorable things from 'Smallville' was it's theme song 'Somebody Save Me'. I've still got some of it wordings stuck in my head till today and from those that finished up all the ten seasons it was a fantastic show overall. Fast forward to 2021, there is a new show in town about superman by CW, 'Superman and Lois' I'm not here to make comparisons with 'Smallville' I'm just here to give you my first impression about the show after seeing episode 1; so let's get into it.
For the first few minutes, the show introduces you to Clark Kent's early life, how he worked at Daily Planet and met Lois. In the present timeline Clark is married to Lois and they're raising two teenage boys, Jonathan and Jordan. The premise of this show feels like a fresh take on Superman's story and it is different from what we're used to seeing in movies and shows. We are going to be seeing Clark juggling between being a family man and also being everyone's hero. Not a bad idea to be honest, we've seen him beat up so much villain over the years and we are here to see him be more human especially with raising two teenagers. Personally, I've enjoyed family drama going on in the Kent's family in episode one. Hopefully, this will get more interesting and less clichéd.
'Superman and Lois' tries do something new with the superheroes genre. Clark Kent might be a great superhero but will he be a great father? That is a question this show raises and we should get our answers as the show goes on.
Where there is a superhero everyone knows it won't take long before a villain shows up. In this show it didn't take long before a stranger in a super suit shows up to oppose Superman. Things start to get interesting from there. The stranger is a familiar character but there is a mysterious twist surrounding his appearance. At this point, the audience is thrown into a state of guessing what's going on. So far, I have two theories as to why this stranger has showed. First, the possibility of an alternative reality existing in the same timeline or the stranger is from the future (very unlikely because Superman would have met this familiar stranger going by the current stage of Clark's Superman's life). We will have to wait for these answers as the show progresses.
For a TV series, the CGI is very decent, it's a superhero movie. So, lots of CGI is expected and being a CW show a lot of people might get skeptical about the story and even the CGI. I just hope the CGI fall short of its current quality by the time more seasons shows up.
There was also an announcement on offical 'Superman and Lois' twitter page that the show has been renewed for a second season. Sounds like a great news but we're not yet half way through the season or near its season finale to see if it's going to be worth sticking around for a second season. For me 'Superman and Lois' is a decent superheroes tv series, only time will tell if it's going to be more than an average show.
