COMING 2 AMERICA
'Coming 2 America' is a movie with a straightforward plot. After the passing of his Father, Prince Akeem is in need of a male heir to the Zamunda throne. He realizes he has bastard son living in Queens, goes in search of him. Levelle the new-found Prince is thrown into the challenge of acclimatizing with his new-found heritage and to prove himself as a worthy heir.
I was skeptical when I heard this movie was coming out. The first thought that came to my was questioning if a part two is a necessary installment to the classic movie 'Coming to America'. My doubts were cleared up thirty minutes into this movie!
The first takeaway from 'Coming 2 America' is how gorgeous it looked. You can tell it got a quality production. Moving forward, there is a strong attention to the custome/wardrobe in this movie and they look elegant throughout. There is so much spectacle and theatrics in this movie and for me they were so refreshing to see. They might seem over the top sometimes, but I don't mind. There is also the blend of the classic vibe with modern vibes throughout this movie and it worked so well. It never felt like they were trying hard to make this blend of culture work.
Furthermore on spectale, the fusion of music into scenes in this movie is something that must be commended. At first, I thought it would get old as the movie progressed, but it didn't. I enjoyed the vibe it gave the movie.
The satirical elements in this movie are presented in an over the top manner that you will occasionally find yourself chuckling to the ridiculous humours. I mean, the movie wasn't even afraid to make jokes about Hollywood remakes and sequel nobody asked for (a category this movie itself falls into).
'Coming 2 America' will take you on a fun coupled with feelings of nostalgia. I enjoyed every bit of it. It's an entertaining watch; you won't get bored with this movie. 'Coming 2 America' is a sequel nobody asked for but turned out to be good; just go watch it if you haven't.
