SOME MOVIES WITH INCREDIBLE USE OF SPACE YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY WATCH
This article is in conjunction with a writer friend of mine who has similar passion for movies like myself. He also has a some fiction books to his name already, I'll be linking his Instagram page at the end of the article in case you want to check out his stuff.
When we talk about incredible use of space, in this context, we are referring to movies where most part of the movie or the whole movie takes place in a confined space. It's not everyday you get to see these types of movies, as they are very technical to make and difficult to keep the audience engaged due to confined setting. Most times, these types of movies rely on solid plot, tension, suspense, and engaging characters to sustain audience's attention throughout their runtime. Today, we have some movies that excels at this style, and we would like to recommend them to you incase you haven't seen them.Without further ado, here are some movies from the last decade(technically) with incredible use of space that you should definitely watch. As usual, we will try to make sure everything you're about to read is spoiler free.
First on our list is 'The Hateful Eight'
This is a Quentin Tarantino movie and I don't have to tell you what to expect. This movie is about eight strangers that shows up at a lodge during a winter storm. Some of the strangers are familiar with one another purely based on reputations of what they've heard. 'The Hateful Eight' relies on the characters being suspicious of another to create tension throughout and most importantly one location, the lodge was used for majority of the runtime. The movie stars two Hollywood veterans, Samuel L. Jackson and Kurt Russell. This is not to say the other actors in this movie didn't do their part well. It's the good acting, script, dialogue and characterization that'll make you stay around for two hours plus till the end of this movie with great suspense in just one location.
The next on the list is 'The Shadow In The Cloud'.
The only reason I got to see this movie earlier this year was because a friend recommended it and I enjoyed my time watching, I apologize for not writing up a review recommending it to you guys to watch; here is a makeup for that.
'Shadow In The Cloud' was released last year and like many people I also slept on it until this year. The plot of this movie follows Maude Garret, a female flight officer that forge her way into a B-17 Bomber (A warplane) With the orders to secure and transport a mysterious package. Majority of the runtime in this movie is spent on the warplane and one of the things that makes it standout on our list is that, for forty minutes plus, Maude was sitting in a gunner turret cockpit where she communicates with the rest of the crew as the dangers they're about to encounter starts building up. Overall, 'Shadow In The Cloud' was a fun movie to watch and if you haven't seen it. Definitely consider adding it to your must watch list.
Moving on, we have 'Exam'
I watched this one a long time ago and it's one of those movies that you stumble across when you're going through a friend's movie library and you're told it's a cool movie and it turns out like they said.
'Exam' like the title says is literally about an exam. Its story follows eight candidates trying to secure a job with a cooperate company and it focuses on them trying to finish the exam that comes with some rules.
1. You can’t speak to the invigilator or the security guard beside the door.
2. You can’t spoil your exam paper.
3. You can’t leave the exam room within the 80 minutes.
Breaking any of these rules leads to disqualification. The craziest thing is that their exams sheet is a blank paper. This whole movie takes place in just one room. By the time you're done with this movie, you'll be glad you watched it. By the way this movie is like taking job interviews or aptitude tests to a extreme level.
A quick bonus, 'Circle'
This one is an honourable mention on this list. The premise centres literally on circle. It's about 50 strangers in a dark room standing on red circles and presumably abducted because none of them has a recollection of how they got there. This one is more like a game show and its suspense and tension relies on the fact that they have to select someone among them at almost every minute of the movie to be executed. Leaving the circle also results in execution. I wouldn't want to spoil this movie as it is very easy to spoil. The whole run time of this movie takes place in just one location. You'll be shocked who the final survivor is.
That's it for our list. We hope you check out these movies if you haven't seen them yet.
